BT has won a major global award for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) for the second time: the Golden Peacock Global Award for CSR 2007. The Golden Peacock Award is presented by the World Council for Corporate Governance. It recognises excellence in corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, innovation, training, environment management, ecological leadership and business leadership.
The award was collected by BT’s head of global CSR, Janet Blake, at the second Global Conference on Social Responsibility in Portugal. Janet was at the Conference to participate in a panel session entitled ‘Making corporate brands by making a difference’. The conference was attended by luminaries from more than 30 countries, including Nobel Laureates, former prime ministers, senior government ministers and business leaders. BT received the award from Baroness Amos, leader of the House of Lords in the UK.
“In a service-based organisation like ours, where customer experience is key, CSR is core to our values and brand,” said Janet Blake. “Customers and partners want to do business with companies that are proactive in CSR. BT has established a great track record on managing our contribution to society and the environment as proven by winning top global awards such as this Golden Peacock award for our CSR work.”
The Golden Peacock awards are open to any organisation. Winners are selected by the Golden Peacock Award Jury under the chairmanship of Dr Ola Ullsten, former Prime Minister of Sweden. BT also won the award in 2005.
