Anglo American outsources IT, connectivity and voice services to the BT HP Alliance

Anglo American plc, a global leader in mining and natural resources, has signed seven-year contracts with HP and BT to outsource the management of its global voice services, data centre operations and end-user workplace environment. Anglo American chose the BT HP Alliance to gain access to industry-leading IT capabilities that can provide flexibility for its businesses, and help improve shareholder value through cost efficiencies.

A core part of Anglo American’s agreements with BT and HP is a two-year global transformation programme to create a global integrated and consolidated IT infrastructure. HP and BT’s global capabilities will help Anglo American accelerate its transformation programme, drive innovation and leverage its resources more effectively. Under the terms of the contracts, approximately 90 employees will transfer from Anglo American to HP and BT worldwide.

“Through BT’s and HP’s highly experienced services professionals, global capabilities and flexible approach to partnering, we plan to deliver Anglo American an extraordinary customer experience and the best return on its IT investment,” said Francesco Serafini, senior vice president and managing director in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and the Technology Solutions Group – EMEA, HP. “Through standardization, optimization and virtualization of Anglo American’s server environment, the BT HP Alliance will provide it with an Adaptive Infrastructure that will quickly adapt and support the changing needs of the business.” The BT HP Alliance brings together the world-class capabilities of HP and BT to provide a full IT and telecommunications service capability in a single service offering. Developing and delivering integrated, seamless solutions for customers, the alliance presents a single point of contact to enterprises for end-to-end service delivery. This provides improved service, increased flexibility and reduced risk for the enterprise.

“I am delighted Anglo American has chosen to work with us. This decision is further evidence of the BT HP Alliance’s ability to satisfy the evolving needs of our international customers,” said Andy Green, CEO of BT Global Services. “The alliance’s integrated service delivery capabilities enable leading companies such as Anglo American to innovate and simplify their corporate IT. We’re excited about working with Anglo American to help them achieve their business ambitions in both the short and the longer term.”

Anglo American will also benefit from the BT HP Alliance’s integrated services delivery platform. This will provide Anglo American with standardised but flexible IT and networking services, consistent reporting and improved service levels. To deliver services and ensure that service levels meet Anglo American’s requirements, HP will also use its governance methodology based on IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and IT service management (ITSM).

The BT HP Alliance team was selected by the Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals as one of two winning alliances in the Individual Alliance Excellence Awards , 2007. The award recognises the excellence and impact of alliance relationships.
