BT reveals global mobility strategy: launches BT Corporate Fusion in eight countries

In an industry that has become increasingly obsessed with cost reduction, BT is rapidly expanding its global portfolio of mobility services to help enterprises realise the strategic benefits of mobility. BT revealed its global vision for mobility at the Gartner Wireless and Mobile Summit in London, 17-18 April 2007.

A key part of this global mobility portfolio is BT Corporate Fusion, our groundbreaking fixed-mobile convergence solution. BT has also announced the simultaneous launch and availability of BT Corporate Fusion in eight European countries: the UK, Belgium, Holland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.

“At the core of our vision is value creation: value through mobilising business processes,” said Rocky Mahajan, Director of Mobility, BT International. “While cost reduction is always important, the real benefit from mobilising your business is improving the efficiency and flexibility of your workforce. We can help large organisations make huge advances in productivity by automating traditionally paper-based processes, and empowering workers to collaborate and perform effectively wherever they are.”

BT’s global mobility portfolio ranges from field force automation and sales force automation solutions, to managed mobile services and full fixed-mobile convergence with BT Corporate Fusion. But it’s not just about having the right applications in place, as Rocky Mahajan explains:

“Getting the most value from your mobile workforce starts with having the right infrastructure in place,” he said. “BT’s unique proposition for customers is that we offer expertise and solutions across the spectrum of mobility – from infrastructure and devices, to applications and managed services. We’re innovating relentlessly in the mobility space, and the multi-country roll-out of BT Corporate Fusion is a perfect example of that innovation in practice.”

BT Corporate Fusion: productivity on the move
BT Corporate Fusion helps large organisations boost productivity on the move by combining the best features of fixed and mobile communications in a single device. Employees can have one phone number, one voicemail and a single point of access to the corporate directory and other PBX services, whether they are inside or outside the office.

BT Corporate Fusion uses a ‘dual-mode’ mobile device that enables employees to make calls over Wi-Fi and GSM networks. When they’re in the office, their calls are routed using Wi-Fi and Voice over IP to an organisation’s fixed communication network. When they move away from wireless coverage, their call can switch seamlessly to a standard GSM mobile network, without the user noticing a difference in performance.

There are two versions of BT Corporate Fusion available to match different customer needs. The first version available is BT Corporate Fusion - site. It’s a premises-based solution that is installed on site and integrated with a customer’s existing IP PBX. The second version is BT Corporate Fusion - net. This is a hosted solution that will be available later this year.
