A few issues ago we covered a new series of discussion forums being run by BT, called BT Big Thinkers. BT Big Thinkers brings together the thought leaders who are shaping business and government in the 21st Century, and the result has been truly fascinating. Some of the recent discussions included:
- Diversity: not whether, but how!
In our last issue we reported on a BT business breakfast session on diversity that took place during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos. This discussion, hosted by Tim Smart, President of BT Global Services in the UK and a champion of diversity across our organisation, builds on that session, looking at how diversity works in practice in global organisations, and the challenges and opportunities it brings.
Joining the discussion were Libby Sartain, Senior VP of Human Resources and Chief People at Yahoo!; Colonel Jim Bowden, Director of Manning for the British Army; Emily Duncan, Vice President of Culture & Diversity at Hewlett-Packard Company; and Tatyana Kanzaveli, Director of Sales at Luxoft.

- Security: not just a technical problem
Over time, the Internet will change dramatically, and the way it treats security and identity will change dramatically too. The anonymity of the "open Internet" is likely to vanish, whether people want it to or not. This fascinating discussion included Risto Siilasmaa, Chairman of the Board at F-Secure Corporation; Michael Barrett, Chief Information Security Officer at PayPal; and Bruce Shneier, CTO and Founder of BT Counterpane.

- Real-world. Real-time. Can the web deliver?
Hosted by Matt Bross, CTO of BT, this discussion explored the impact of the Internet on the physical operations of businesses. How can the Internet help companies manage real-world things like oilfield operations, package delivery and aircraft operations? The panel included Jay Bregman, CTO and Co-Founder of eCourier; Edward Iacobucci, President and CEO of DayJet; and Ken Lyon, Chairman of Sourceree.
