Optimising your full systems landscape
In today’s global marketplace, companies’ operations and customers are frequently dispersed and extending across many functions, partners and applications. The complex and fragmented nature of the information flows required to connect these elements makes it almost impossible for any single individual to have full visibility of the systems landscape required to support these operations. BT’s AAI service can provide you with extra visibility and control.
BT’s technical authority
AAI can be applied to any IP infrastructure and offers:
-
Service based on best-of-breed: Modular packages bring together market-leading tools from a range of suppliers to deliver a comprehensive managed service at lower cost than ‘do it yourself’ approaches.
-
End-to-end visibility and control: AAI addresses each element of the applications lifecycle management challenge from discovery, testing through to ongoing analysis and control. By understanding the interrelationships between infrastructure elements – network, application, data centre and desktop – AAI ensures business critical applications perform more predictably
- Expertise: Our 200 AAI specialists understand how networks, applications and servers interact with business processes in a wide range of industries. A dedicated helpdesk and applications analysts also offer advice.
- Pro-active management: 24x7 analysis and realtime optimisation of critical applications at all times with applications-based SLAs to deliver end-to-end assurance
- Optimisation: In 2006, an Applications Optimisation Service (AOS) was added to deliver greater control over application flows, enabling you to make changes to quality of service (QoS) policies in real time on the AAI dashboard.
“A true managed service. It’s available as a customer tool or fully outsourced network management. BT has great examples of how AAI has helped customers work out the best options for IP migration … BT is among the best in the world for delivery.”

Operational insight pays real dividends
A large pharmaceutical needed to know exactly what applications were running over its global networks. These were extensive and complex, partly due to inorganic growth of the business.
The customer chose a BT AAI solution which was rolled out across 8,300 servers, 21K workstations, and 11 sites in 10 different countries. In total we found 465 separate applications.
BT identified a number of performance problems that could be improved. An IPCCTV camera transmitting images across the WAN to a central proxy server in another country was generating 2GB of traffic a day, accounting for 6% of network traffic.
As a result of AAI the customer can now take informed action to control applications across the business. The customer is now taking an ongoing performance management service to monitor a major infrastructure upgrade and SAP roll-out, minimising the risk.
Lowering your IT cost of ownership
Help shave expenses with BT Applications Assured Infrastructure (AAI):
- A major European financial institution planning to deploy a new suite of CRM applications to its sales offices estimated that the network upgrade required to accommodate the rollout would cost €7m.
- BT conducted an applications profiling exercise within an AAI capacity analysis programme to determine the likely impact of the new application deployment
- This revealed that by using the existing bandwidth more effectively a costly network upgrade was not needed.
- The customer was able to get the most out of their existing infrastructure and plan for the future with confidence, thanks to BT Applications Assured Infrastructure (AAI).
