Public digital certificates are suited to organisations wishing to secure e-mail messages as well as enable access to intranets, extranets, or e-commerce applications on a broad scale. Public digital certificates are interoperable, allowing you to also communicate outside of your private domain.

Private digital certificates are suited to internal applications and allow you to restrict access to areas of your network. Since they are not interoperable with Internet-wide applications such as major browsers, servers and e-mail packages, private digital certificates allow for greater control in a closed network.
